Terms of Use

Last updated: September 30, 2026

One New Friend is an app where you talk with one person a day without a profile or real name, operated by Atsushi Miyamoto, an individual developer (“we”, “us”). These Terms of Use cover both the mobile app and the website at https://one-new-friend.vercel.app (together, the “Service”). Before you can start chatting, the app asks you to accept these Terms by tapping “I agree”; by doing so, and by using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

How we handle your information is described separately in our Privacy Policy, which you should read alongside these Terms.

1. Who can use the Service

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using it you confirm that you are 18 or older and that you are legally able to agree to these Terms. If we learn that someone under 18 is using the Service, we will remove their access.

There are no accounts. The app signs you in without one and there is nothing for you to register, no password to keep safe, and no profile to maintain.

2. What the Service is

One New Friend pairs you with one other person per day, with no profile or real name on either side, for a conversation around a shared theme. After 24 hours the conversation disappears from the app and neither of you can open it again. As explained in the Privacy Policy, the message content is still retained on our server after that point — it is hidden from the app, not erased.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial use. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, and we have no obligation to provide support or maintenance.

3. Your messages

You are responsible for everything you send through the Service. You keep ownership of what you write, and you grant us the limited right to store, transmit, display and process it as needed to run the Service — delivering it to the person you are talking with, sending notifications, investigating safety reports, and improving the Service.

Do not share personal details you would not want someone you have never met to have. The app blocks phone numbers, email addresses and URLs before a message sends, but no filter is perfect and you should assume anything you type may be read by the other person, by us, or by someone you report them to.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

· harass, threaten, bully, stalk or intimidate anyone
· send sexual content, sexual solicitations, or anything sexualising a minor
· promote hatred or violence against any person or group
· send spam, advertising, scams, phishing, chain messages or solicitations of any kind
· share content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringes someone else’s rights
· impersonate another person, or misrepresent who you are in a way that could cause harm
· attempt to identify, track down or contact the person you are matched with outside the app without their agreement
· collect or harvest information about other users
· interfere with, overload, reverse engineer, scrape or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its systems
· use the Service for anything illegal, or for commercial purposes

Anything that would break our Community Guidelines or our Child Safety Policy also breaks these Terms.

Zero tolerance. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users on One New Friend. Anyone who sends objectionable content or abuses another user is removed from the Service, as described in section 5.

5. Reporting and moderation

You can report or block the person you are matched with from inside the app. Every report is acted on automatically as soon as it is sent. The first steps below are automatic:

· Every report immediately ends the conversation and blocks the reported user from the person who reported them. You will not receive any new messages from that person, and the two of you will never be matched again.
· Every report is sent to us by email as soon as it is filed. We may permanently ban the reported user at any time.
· A user reported by two or more different people within 90 days is permanently banned automatically.
· When a user is banned, their active conversations are ended and they can no longer be matched or send messages.

Messages are also checked by an automated filter, and messages with objectionable content are blocked before they are delivered. We may additionally review reported content and remove it, or restrict or end access for anyone who breaks these Terms. We are not obliged to proactively monitor every conversation. If you believe someone is in danger, contact your local emergency services; we are not an emergency service and cannot intervene in real time.

6. Other users

You are talking with people you do not know, and we do not verify who anyone is. We do not screen or vet users, and we are not responsible for what another user says or does. Your interactions with other users are between you and them, and you use your own judgement about what to share and how far to trust someone.

7. Subscriptions and payments

Some features require a paid subscription. Subscriptions are sold and billed through the App Store or Google Play, and they renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel or manage a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings; deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies, not by us. We never see your card details.

If you use the iOS app, it is also licensed to you under Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, and purchases made through the App Store are subject to it.

8. Our content

The Service itself — the app, this website, the name One New Friend, and its design and code — belongs to us. You may not copy, resell, modify, reverse engineer or build a competing product from it, except where the law says you may. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely and without owing you anything.

9. Ending your use of the Service

You may stop using the Service at any time by deleting the app. We may suspend or end your access at any time if you break these Terms or if we believe it is necessary to protect other users or the Service. Note that ending your access does not by itself erase content already stored on our server; see the Privacy Policy for how retention works and how to ask us to delete your data.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE, THAT YOU WILL BE MATCHED WITH ANYONE ON A GIVEN DAY, OR THAT ANY CONVERSATION OR DATA WILL BE PRESERVED. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO PARTS OF THIS SECTION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR YOUR INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER USERS. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR FIFTY US DOLLARS. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, AND SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THESE LIMITATIONS, SO PARTS OF THIS SECTION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

12. Indemnity

You agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses if a third party brings a claim against us because of your use of the Service, your breach of these Terms, or content you sent through the Service.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. Because we have no email address for you, this page is where changes are announced. If you keep using the Service after a change, you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, and any dispute arising from them or from the Service will be handled by the courts of Japan, unless the consumer protection law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
